US President Donald Trump has found a way to force the Democrats to argue against migration at a time when the last severely damaged, shaky-looking pillar of progressivism is balanced on migrant victimhood.
Most readers will be familiar with America’s Green Card system. There are 12.8 million Green Card holders and roughly 9 million of those are eligible to become citizens.
This is addition to the 11-ish million illegal migrants wandering around the country.
Donald Trump has been given a Treasury in crisis. America is $36.5 trillion in the red, or $107,310 per person and $323,047 per taxpayer (because not everyone is paying this nightmare off).
DOGE is aimed at rapidly cutting expenses and reducing the ongoing concern of the bureaucracy. It is also why Trump is forcing harsh terms on Ukraine, having this morning reached a deal over roughly half of the country’s future mineral wealth (excluding its two largest coal and gas areas). Foreign wars are expensive, and America has made it clear that it is not the world’s sugar daddy.
Given this, and what we know about Trump’s method of business, his announcement today of the Gold Card makes perfect sense.
This special type of Green Card is meant to attract rich investors from a globe in crisis, advertising America as a life raft for the first world, instead of the third.
It turns the import the third world, become the third word warning on its head.
Here is what the President had to say:
‘We’re going to be selling a Gold Card. You have a Green Card, this is a Gold Card. We are going to be putting a price on that card which is about $5 million. That is going to give you Green Card privileges-plus. It’s going to be a route to citizenship. And wealthy people are going to be coming into this country by buying this card. They’ll be wealthy. They’ll be successful. And they’ll be spending a lot of money, paying a lot of taxes, and employing a lot of people. We think it’s going to be extremely successful. Never been done before.’
‘They’ll have to go through vetting, of course, to make sure they’re wonderful world-class global citizens,’ added Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
It is a smart idea, which means the Left hate it. Seeing the country make money is like a rapid decompression event which automatically gives them the bends.
Despite what Trump claimed, this idea has been tried lots of times in other countries and it works very well.
The White House has confirmed that the Gold Card will replace the clunky and widely criticised EB-5 program within a fortnight.
The Times of India commented:
The program seems tailored for India’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, tech executives, and industrialists.
That could make sense given the Trump administration has its fair share of tech investment and the support of the most powerful digital businesses.
Trump confirmed that Russian oligarchs, who have been living in a very small world since Russia invaded Ukraine, would be eligible for the program.
‘Possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people,’ replied Trump.
It has long been speculated that the Western Left pursued open borders and mass migration as a way to prop up their dwindling voting base. The Democrats liked illegal migrants because they were easy to pitch policies to during the election.
Rich migrants will have high expectations of politicians and expect them to do some actual work in exchange for all the tax they are paying.
That’s dreadful news for Congress.
Donald Trump and the Republicans are not stupid. They knew when they came to office that the borders had to be closed and illegal migrants deported as fast as possible, or socialism would entrench itself, the American dream would die, and conservatism would go extinct.
Now, not only is Trump reversing the socialist revolution, he is playing with economic demographics to actively tilt America back toward a business-oriented, capitalist super power to defend against the Left.
These are serious games with serious prizes.
Trump is creating a Gold Card for a gold-plated economy and using economics to shore-up conservative politics in a way Australian politicians never seem to properly grasp.
The press like to paint Trump as an orange buffoon, but he is taking intelligent steps toward shifting the entire global order and that is something the smartest intellectuals hanging out in talkfests never managed to achieve in their lengthy careers.
