PRIME Minister Scott Morrison has been accused of manufacturing a crisis to push through a factional deal that tramples Liberal Party members’ constitutional rights.
The deal effectively hands pre-selection to a number of sitting parliamentarians – without them having to face pre-selection plebiscites required by the Party’s 2017 constitutional amendments.
- The PM’s by-passing of the Party’s constitution is a subject of renewed legal action.
- What’s the point of our NSW Liberal Party Constitution if it can be trodden on.
- Party members continue to be disenfranchised and their preferred candidates permanently sidelined.
Beneficiaries include soft-Right minister Alex Hawke, Left-wing minister Sussan Ley and Left-wing factional boss and perpetual backbencher Trent Zimmerman.
Federal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells described the move as nothing more than a “captain’s pick” designed to by-pass Party members’ constitutional rights.
TRAMPLE
“I believe that the ‘manufactured’ delay in selecting candidates was deliberately designed to avoid plebiscites and trample on the rights of members,” she said.
“What’s the point of our NSW Liberal Party Constitution if it can be trodden on and overridden in such a callous manner?”
“I appreciate some may argue ‘what’s done is done’ and ‘best get on with it’ but this is not a precedent we can tolerate and let stand!”
Senator Fierravanti-Wells said there were now serious questions regarding the legality of the processes that the Prime Minister and Federal Executive had “imposed” on NSW members.
The PM’s by-passing of the Party’s constitution is a subject of renewed legal action by Right faction organiser and NSW Party executive Matthew Camenzuli.
“Mr Camenzuli has commenced a set of proceedings in the Supreme Court to uphold members’ rights and challenge the validity of the decision to impose candidates in NSW,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
MESSAGE
“I understand that the other candidates who had nominated in these electorates were sent a message from the State Director advising of the resolution and thanking them for their ‘participation’,” she said.
“Other than lodging their nomination forms, these candidates were not afforded any opportunity for participation at all.
“What is the precedent that is being set when a ‘captain’s pick’ can be foisted on our Division by the Federal Executive?”
The 2017 introduction of plebiscites in NSW has caused fear among factional operatives, who remain petrified of grass-roots members having a say in candidate selection.
The driving force behind the Liberal Party’s democratic reform movement, Walter Villatora – who spent a decade pushing for constitutional change – has come under relentless criticism from factional heads.
Without the plebiscite system, however, Party members would continue to be disenfranchised and their preferred candidates permanently sidelined.PC
What else can you expect from a Prime Minister who was himself parachuted into COOK against the wishes of the local party members.
There is an old adage – “How can you manage the future if you forget the lessons of the past?”
Malcolm Fraser was very conservative when he accounted for Whitlam but soon tried to please everybody and lost the support of those that had helped him gain The Lodge
But all is not lost if we concentrate on gaining control of the Senate either through true Liberals or allied Independents. then it matters little which clowns win a turn in the main ring.
If what Labor alternatively had on offer was less appalling, the libs would face a landslide loss. The latter don’t deserve to win again at all, but as the populace has little choice, they could well scrape over the line. The liberal party in NSW is a true horror show, and the writer and so many others will not be handing out even one how to vote card for them, nor will be donating any money.
Looks like this “Captain” will go down with his ship! And if it means we will get a Labor/Green government that means treason by him 🙁 Time to move to United Australia Party and One Nation and put greens last before Labor and LNP 🙂
You have been here far too long – In the name of the people – Go Scomo Go!
It has again been exposed on current affairs programmes that governing has taken a back seat to party politics and cooperating in globalist left political agenda, for example climate hoax and warming creative accounting. The BoM was reported in 2014 for publishing inaccurate weather data that does not reflect historic record data and before 1910 date recorded ignored by BoM, weather stations located in heat sinks and therefore producing inaccurate readings, and a lot more manipulation, Doctor Jennifer Marohasy is one of many scientists who have monitored BoM and reported the findings. What have our elected representatives done about it, nothing.
ABC is leaning so far to the left that now the employees do it blatantly and laugh about it, as Andrew Bolt reported yesterday and replayed a segment from ABC Q&A during which presenter even had the hide to comment “that’s what we’re here for, sort of” commenting on an anti-PM and Government comment.
The examples are many of public service employees not working in the best interests of the taxpayers that employ them to manage our nation’s and state affairs. And noting that public service employees do not pay real tax, the monies they are paid come from private sector taxpayers and what public servants pay in tax is a return of some of the private sector revenue.
The point is elected politicians have become very poor managers and are not working in our best interests, some are but most are not. Another example is the mess the Department of Defence has become and related should be managers of defence for the nation. Minister for Defence Peter Dutton appears to be across the issues and problems but is now forced to catch up and try to position the ADF where it should have been a long time ago, and then the position maintained or strengthened.
Meanwhile trivia is the focus, political games, pathetic politics and infighting.
Please get back to us when Liberal Party Headquarters NSW does what a majority of party members have demanded for a very long time, to return to electorate branch pre-selection interviews and secret ballots to choose a local candidate.
Political parties, especially the major parties, seem to have forgotten long ago that a Member of Parliament should be first and foremost the representative of constituents in an electorate, not controlled and managed bums on seats.
In the absence of real leadership people will listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone . Now do you want Leftist ALP Albo or I am MIA most of the time Flip Flop Morrison ???? We must ensure the minor parties get the votes and be wary of independents like Zali Steggall and rash of other females who seem to think that because Mother Nature is female that they can control the climate and have all jumped on the climate hoax bandwagon as they have nothing else to offer . One Nation is the best of all the minors but give the others a look in as well . COVID-19 = Sheep Surrender .
Minor parties are not the answer, PHON received about 3% of the SA State Election vote, in line with their national average earlier. No offence intended but they are not the solution and obviously the vast majority of national voters think so too.
As the LIBs wallow in the gutter of factional politics, the members are left behind. Ignored by the power obsessed megalomaniacs that HQ promotes, the good folk of the Liberal party are once again trampled by these few corrupted power brokers.
The only thing to do is wrest power away from the Party Machine in a very public campaign to vote independent.
I thinks that it’s wonderful that Scott is working so hard to ensure that “moderates” get the seats to which they are clearly entitled – I mean, it’s important to have moderates controlling the show; just look at South Australia, where that’s really worked out a treat…
I think Walter did a magnificent job. BUT by giving up so much of his precious time for a irredeemable LPA/NSW; he probably thinks that he’s wasted much energy on a dead political horse. His efforts might have been better directed to supporting emerging political forces such as the LDP???
Just my thoughts.
Ok, Morrison lied to the membership, reneged on a deal, ignored the rules and made pathetic excuses as to why. So, who is surprised?
