There is a terrible fear that Joe Biden’s presidential term has been little more than a performance – a bad one – that undermined the future of Western Civilisation.
He was the living captive of the progressive narrative and served as proof of the long-suspected puppeteering behind the curtains of the White House.
From the dodgy blue ‘tick’ on election night, to Roscosmos threatening to crash the International Space Station into the US … Biden was the crux of Wokeism. A person with absolute power and no clue what’s going on is the inevitable result of an ideology trying to cling onto power without a shred of merit.
Before writing this article, I invited readers of The Spectator Australia to submit their highlights of the Biden presidency. Several replied, ‘World’s shortest article?’ Others added, ‘Comedy material and fantastic memes!’
Black comedy is the comfortable refuge of a tortured society nervous about their survival. By all means, laugh, it helps us catch breath for the next battle.
As Biden shuffles on, I am reminded of Clive James’ words in, The River in the Sky.
Books are the anchors left by the ships that rot away. The mud the anchors lie in is one’s recollection of what life was, and never, late or soon, will be again.
That is how many feel about America. They are curious if those anchors are to be dredged from their graves, fresh chains affixed, and new ships sought to carry them. Voters are tired of consuming; they wish to be leaders. Or winning! as Trump is fond of shouting.
Biden’s book, his anchor, will be thin and quickly lost to the silt.
In this, he is not alone. Aside from Brexit, world leaders aren’t known for their historic decisions or fabulous speeches. We have been trapped in an Age of Mediocrity with leaders so frightened of leadership that they take their directions from international bureaucracies. The only legislative progress across the West is that of censorship and the unwavering devotion frightened leaders have to shutting the public up and threatening social media companies who refuse to play along.
If pressed, most Australians would struggle to cite a positive policy put in place by Albanese or Morrison and come up utterly empty if they went hunting for quotes. The only thing I remember Scott Morrison saying was some nonsense about vaccine mandates being voluntary. As for Albanese, I guess you could dig up his tattered lament about his childhood as a housing commission boy.
It is much easier to quote Joe Biden. All you have to do is mumble incoherently, look lost, and wander off.
‘All men and women created by the go you know … you know, the thing.’
‘America is a nation that can be defined in a single world: aseemfhuuthimaafuutheemscuseme … the foothills of the Himalayas with Xi Jinping.’
‘Shenewlofthbudshenewlongdashedenied our freedom can never be secure.’
‘I’ll lead an effective strategy to mobilise trueindernationdanderpreshure.’
To be fair, I do like Katie’s suggestion of, ‘Let’s go, Brandon!’ as a bright spot from Biden which wove itself into the fabric of political mania.
My personal favourite Joe Biden quote is: ‘End of quote. Repeat the line.’
It’s rather poignant when you put it in context of a scripted President running a government propped up by Hollywood.
Jokes aside, Biden has presided over a shameful period in American politics. Between the child-sniffing, the wandering off into the wilderness, the inability to stay upright, repeating directions on the auto-cue, the appointment of DEI staff in critical roles, and a general absence from work – it was a shambles.
We should not forget that at one point the Biden Administration hired a non-binary bondage fetish enthusiast who role-played with people dressed as dogs and was caught stealing women’s clothing from bags at the airport. Twice.
Despite the media’s best efforts to protect Biden by making excuses for his failing health and absent-minded behaviour, very few political commentators are prepared to argue that Biden was leading America and the free world.
If not Biden, then who has spent the last few years in charge?
Which nameless, faceless swamp creatures had their hands on the levers of power?
He simply existed to provide a face and a voice to other people’s agendas.
The only action that Biden appeared to take with agency was the unconditional pardoning of his son, Hunter Biden, for unspecified crimes over a ten-year expanse. He followed this up with the commuting of thousands of drug-related sentences.
George Washington issued 16 pardons. Barack Obama pardoned 1,927. Donald Trump pardoned 237. Joe Biden issued 8,064 including for those convicted of child pornography, espionage, and the commuting of 37 death row sentences.
Possibly the greatest failure of the Biden era was the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ‘gifting’ of $7 billion worth of military equipment to the Taliban, one of the most dangerous Islamic terrorist groups who are now trying to ingratiate themselves on the world stage under the banner of ‘climate change’. Footage emerged shortly after the withdrawal of the Taliban flying (badly) an American Black Hawk helicopter with their terrorist flag draped over the side.
Islamic terror has never been more powerful than under the watch of Biden.
That aside, we should thank Joe Biden for unmasking the media.
The preservation of Joe Biden as a viable candidate for a second term will go down as one of the biggest manufactured lies in American history. Who orchestrated this sadistic theatre to which we were all unwilling patrons?
If, as I suspect, there is no overarching conspiracy and the media is simply broken at a fundamental level, voluntarily playing the role of Fool, it will face a crisis under the Trump Administration.
It’s no wonder that the billionaire owner of X, Elon Musk, is stirring up the independent press and public with cries of, ‘You are the media!’
There is a market niche to tear down the old printing press and build something new.
To Joe Biden we say, farewell. To Trump we say, welcome back, Mr President.
