PRIME Minister Scott Morrison has vowed never to sacrifice Australia’s economy on the altar of climate extremism.
While Labor’s hardline climate warriors tear their Party in two, Mr Morrison made clear this week that technology, and not taxation, would be the sole driver for reducing emissions.
In a clever National Press Club speech on Monday – which avoided angering large sections of his Party – the prime minister said his goal was to quickly reach net zero emissions.

- PM outlines sensible approach to emissions reduction.
- 2050 target will not come at the expense of electricity prices nor jobs.
- Labor stranded with 'climate emergency' scare campaign.
“Our goal is to reach net zero emissions as soon as possible, and preferably by 2050,” PM Morrison said in Canberra.
He was quick to add, however, that this would be achieved by technology advancements and without imposing higher electricity prices and taxes.
“Now is the time to focus on how we’re going to get there,” he said.
“If we can produce hydrogen at $2 a kilo, then we can get there. If we can’t, it’s going to be very hard.”
Mr Morrison warned, however, he wouldn’t commit to a 2050 target without first outlining its impact on Australia’s economy and jobs.
His approach is a balance between economic and environmental political imperatives while avoiding Labor’s business-killing scare campaign.
Mr Morrison further clarified his position during Parliamentary Question Time on Tuesday.
“I will never put a cost on Australians for getting to net zero,” he said.
INTERESTED
The prime minister accused The Greens of not being interested in how to reduce emissions.
“I’m interested in the how,” he told parliament. “I’m interested how we get to net zero as soon as possible and preferably by 2050.
“I’m interested in how because if you don’t get there by technology, you get there by taxes.
“I see us getting to net zero by transformational technology that keeps the jobs in our regions, that keeps the jobs in our heavy industry – that provides a future for all of those workers particularly across regional Australia.
“That’s what we’re investing in.”
Mr Morrison said his emissions targets were “very clear” while, in the same breathe, exposing Labor’s climate confusion.
“I took my targets to the last election and they were endorsed by the Australian people.
“I call on others to nominate what their 2030 targets are,” Mr Morrison said while eye-balling ALP leader Anthony Albanese, “because I think that would be very important for the people of Australia to know before the election next year.” PC
I COULD SCREAM whenever I hear or read about Australia reaching ‘net zero emissions ‘ by blah blah time – ONCE AGAIN!
We could spend BILLIONS reducing our ‘emissions’ and supporting all the oligarchs of the renewables scams BUT – as ‘the science’ has stated over and over, this would have such a minuscule effect on the earth’s atmosphere, as to be almost ZERO.
It’s a no-brainer that we MUST use our abundant, easily accessible fossil fuels for the very, very best possible economic outcome – for the present – and for the generations to come!
CO2 IS NOT A PROBLEM HERE! – The huge oceans encircling our Continent, plus our vast regions of wilderness, our national parks and huge areas under cultivation absorb 99.99% of this harmless gas and the rest disseminates up and out!
However, if our Govt. is so coerced or threatened by external agents, or are so brain-washed and ridiculously obsessed with CO2, then when we build the next raft of much needed coal-fired stations, they should be the next-generation HELE COAL-FIRED POWER STATIONS – of which Japan is building six at present. These would cut a major percentage of our emissions and allow our Govt. to virtue-signal and pander big-time to the legions of hysterical and sinister nutters!
Then, when the Earth herself disproves all their rantings, as she surely will by 2050, these dangerous legions will have to crawl off and admit their shocking hysteria was completely unfounded.
Unless I live well over 100, unfortunately I won’t be here in 2050 to see this happen. However, my children and grandchildren will be here and it’s my fervent hope that Australia will have been governed by wise heads, will have surged ahead with her economy thriving – and fuelled to the great extent by the enormous gifts that we have right below our feet.
A debate is needed, professionals such as Professor Ian Plimer (Professor emeritus of Earth sciences and a Geologist) and colleagues and a debating team of woke politicians who are pushing net zero emissions by the time they are well and truly forgotten.
