In the latest not-surprising-but-undeniable waste of money, Towson University spent nearly a million dollars on a women and gender studies program with just 11 undergraduate students enrolled last year.
Campus Reform reports, “Twenty-seven students were enrolled on Nov. 1, 2021, while just 14 were enrolled on that same date in 2025. These numbers mean the program suffered a 48 percent drop in undergraduate and graduate enrollment, according to the university’s Office of Institutional Research.”
That’s not the outrageous part; the outrage is that despite the decrease in enrollment, these insane courses continue.
“Towson University spent more than $870,000 on its women and gender studies program.”
In other words, students are smart to realize that enrolling in Women’s and Gender Studies programs is a waste, yet Towson continues to spend an absurd amount on these Woke programs.
Only 11 individual undergrad students were enrolled in these courses at Towson.
“The department also offers a master’s program, which only awarded two degrees during the 2024-2025 academic year, and a certificate program, which had no graduates.”
“While the program’s enrollment has consistently dropped over the past five years, its budget has steadily increased. ”
“The department’s budget rose from $725,084 during the 2020–2021 academic year to $870,220 in 2024–2025.”
That statistic is outrageous, and a clear waste of money spent on a program almost no one is interested in anymore.
Even the department’s faculty number decreased during this time.
“The Women’s and Gender Studies major department website boasts that Towson is one of the “nation’s first higher education institutions” to offer such a major. “Towson University has been at the forefront of the study of women and gender and has added to the body of knowledge in this discipline,” the website reads.”
That’s woke bragging and virtue signaling.
These courses teach feminism and diversity, so nothing of use for the real world.
Wokeness and Gender ideology remain a focus of many colleges despite the lack of interest among actual students and the waste of time and money these courses entail.
