With his exquisite political judgement, and with an election looming in the next six months or so, Albo intends to purchase a $4.35m cliff-top house at Copacabana on the Central Coast of NSW.
Perhaps with the shortage of social housing he will allow the NSW Housing Commission to use it for that purpose until he is forced to vacate his current residences, by either his backbench or the electorate, at Kirribilli House and the Lodge.
At least if he had trouble getting rid of the tenants, as most Landlords do, he has a couple of other properties in Sydney’s inner west where he and his partner could wait until they could move into the Copa.
If the proposed nuptials take place while he is still the Prime Minister, Houso Albo will have the difficult task of deciding where to hold the reception, on the lawn of Kirribilli House, with its views of the Harbour or at The Copa, Copacabana, with the hottest sea views north of Patonga. Or perhaps with his roots in Struggle Street he will get married in the backyard of one of his million-dollar properties in his electorate. My bet would be on Kirribilli House where the house catering staff are familiar with the kitchen and entertainment areas. Then again if the restless backbenchers have their way they may end up at the Copa for the event.
To assuage the electorate suffering from a cost of living crisis, many struggling to make their mortgage repayments while their children’s prospects of being able to own their own home are diminishing exponentially, when asked about his coastal purchase, did Houso Albo make an announcement of a huge cut to immigration numbers? No, in case we had forgotten, he reminded us once again that he knows what it’s like to do it tough, being brought up in a Housing Commission home in Camperdown by his single mum on the pension. I’ve a hunch that he has never worked in the private sector in tight economic times. Such is life.
One commentator suggested that at his Copacabana property he would be able to keep watch on the rising sea levels. Maybe he wishes to see the bubbles of the UN Sectary-General António Guterres’ boiling oceans proclamation. I smiled when I heard Professor Ian Plimer’s quip that Houso Albo, now that the Illawarra offshore windfarm is not proceeding, he may have the government construct an offshore wind farm off the Central Coast so that Houso Albo can keep an eye on both their beauty and how they are preventing the ocean from rising. Maybe if the rising boiling oceans start eating away his cliff top he might be able to become The Coastie Canute of Oz.
Chris Kenny on Sky News Australia also had an amusing video clip with Albo’s face superimposed on Barry Manilow’s face on the video of the Copacabana song. Perhaps the lyrics could be varied to be a little more relevant;
His name was Albo, he was a Houso,
With leftie causes by the score,
He went woke more and more
At Houso, Houso Copacabana,
The hottest cliff top north of Patonga,
At the Houso Copacabana,
To make socialism the fashion
Was always Albos passion
And the Copa was no tin shed.
At the Copa Copacabana.
I am reminded of George Orwell’s observation in Animal Farm on socialism along the lines that all animals are created equal, but some are created more equal than others.
