Will Keyes Byrne is a Sydney playwright domiciled in Chinatown. The Genesians Theatre, Sydney’s second oldest theatre company, staged his play about Oscar Wilde creating The Importance of Being Earnest (Valentine, What Braggadism is This? directed by Ms Jessica Davis) for the Christmas before COVID-19 overtook us. In June the Genesians staged its first ever Internet broadcast (necessitated by COVID-19) of its play about the Shark Arm Murders – A Tattooed Arm – directed by the Genesians’ Artistic Director, Barry Nielsen. AS A teenager growing up in England I was an active Trotskyist. My pal and fellow Trotskyist PJ and I devised a petition to have Queen Elizabeth – or Mrs Elizabeth Windsor as we preferred to called her – her husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, and her children, evicted from Buckingham Palace and re-housed in a modest semi-detached home in the outer London dormitory suburb of Croydon.
