January 6 defendant Daniel Caldwell in the Marine Corps (left) and in the DC Gulag (right)
There are many stories about January 6 that fall by the wayside. Some January 6 defendants got extensive media coverage, especially in the immediate aftermath of January 6, but this is not representative of the overall body.
Most defendants have remained nameless, faceless hostages. Real Americans have been rendered as caricatures as a way of pigeonholing them and glossing over the real experiences of that complicated day.
Daniel Caldwell was the epitome of the American man. Dan joined the Marine Corps after school, started a family, and believed in God & Country. Dan Caldwell, “Mr. Microchip,” also spent years working in the semiconductor industry.
Dan “the Man” Caldwell
Like many that day, Dan was incensed by excessive force from law enforcement against demonstrators. The shooting of protestor Joshua Black in the face and the visual of blood spread on the ground would ultimately lead to panic among many on the West Terrace of the US Capitol. Dan was outraged by those operating under the cover of law using that level of force against protestors.
Things escalated throughout the day from a combination of police incompetence, malicious actions by out-of-control cops, as well as provocateurs within the crowds. According to Dan in his interview with Cowboy Logic, the Metro PD were even more egregious in their conduct than Capitol PD:
Dan was sprayed by police, witnessed police shoot rounds at protestors in the crowd, and saw police assault defenseless women. The police sprayed countless nonviolent protestors, but, as I showed in the case of Julian Khater, Dan Caldwell sprayed cops in response to getting sprayed himself. “Things got out of hand” as Dan told me in our recent interview.
A covert recording taken on the day of January 6, of Dan describing what he witnessed at the Capitol, was uploaded online and used with facial recognition software to identify and hunt Dan down.
(Excerpt from Caldwell’s State of Facts from his arrest) Caldwell was secretly recorded on January 6 in a hotel, describing the shooting of protestors by cops, which was used to indict him using facial recognition
Dan was arrested at his semiconductor job and would eventually wind up in the DC jail – the Gulag. And as with most of us who lived through January 6, Dan was smeared as a racist, domestic terrorist, militia nut, cop-beating insurrectionist – which couldn’t be further from the truth.
Caldwell often wore fatigues but was not a militia member, as claimed by the feds
Like all of us, Dan was subjected to psychological torture by the facility’s guards and held in solitary confinement for months on end. Dan was denied treatment for PTSD and proper medical care, denied basic nutrition, denied religious services, denied proper hygiene, and denied basic due process despite being an American citizen who loyally served his country.
Dan was denied haircuts and shaving in DC for over a year
In one of the most egregious episodes of the DC Gulag, Dan – an honorable Marine Corps veteran – experienced a medical episode on Veterans Day as a result of an officer releasing an entire canister of mace.
An incompetent and out-of-shape jail guard, unable to chase an inmate provocateur who initiated a ruckus, filled the entire wing of C2B (the “Patriot Pod” within the DC jail), entering the vents of inmates locked in their cells and causing Dan to collapse and lose sensation in his body. Dan was left on the floor for an hour before any help came to him. I and others filed grievances against the jail for this negligence which I still have saved.
Three years ago in the DC Gulag, on Veterans Day, an obese guard came in to harass us over not wearing Covid masks. Now an idiot in the pod, without consulting the rest of us first, started protesting and running around screaming about civil rights.

Dan and I met in early 2021 and would spend nearly 2 years together before heading to different prisons. We endured hardships together, enjoyed good laughs, and had each other’s backs in a hostile environment filled with Antifa, informants, and Trump-hating guards. When access to video evidence was finally provided to those of us in the DC Gulag, Dan, I, and a select few defendants spent our time watching thousands of hours of video withheld from the American public.
I’m happy to hear that Dan Caldwell is doing well in prison, all things considered. We can’t talk directly because of my probation. Maybe that will change once 18 USC 1512 is tossed out by SCOTUS. That said, he made it clear to my family that he’s holding up alright. He even… https://t.co/I6ay1QKl5w pic.twitter.com/tTfcsPA3R0

Dan was a favorite of those who were decent. A patriot and a family man, he was extremely loyal. Those of us in the Gulag could always count on Dan Caldwell, so much so that he became a jail custodian and took care of his fellow inmates. I kept a note he passed me one day, a reminder of the decency jailhouse brothers showed in the harshest conditions of our lives.
I hated the DC jail. I miss the men I suffered with. It’s all so fucked up. I’m not a sentimental person. But I don’t know how to pick up my life where I left off. And I can’t stop thinking about the good men I had to leave behind or about what the hell they’re dealing with. #J6 pic.twitter.com/gsNPdtvwqx

After 4 years behind bars, however, President Trump pardoned Dan for January 6. Daniel Caldwell, a political prisoner and hostage of the Biden regime, was free.

After 2 years apart, I had the honor of speaking with Dan again, and I interviewed him for over 2 hours. Dan discussed his background, his belief in America First, his experience on January 6, the horrors of incarceration, and the path forward in life:
Now that the January 6 defendants are no longer subject to probation or supervised release, we can speak freely with each other. The patriots who languished behind bars in the DC Gulag have been hastily reconnecting. With each day, more and more sign on to tell their story. What really happened on January 6, how they were smeared by the feds and media, and what they suffered through while locked up, and much more.
My phone has been on fire today as I reconnected with many of the men I was incarcerated with after January 6. And I’m now prepared to unveil a project that has been simmering in my head some time.

These interviews, along with hundreds of pages of primary documents, will form the basis for a multi-volume history series, Artifice and Betrayal: The History of the DC Gulag. Now that their voices have been restored, the defendants will be the ones to write the authoritative history of January 6 and the lawfare that followed, not the prosecutors and media.

Daniel Caldwell’s story hasn’t ended either.
He declared in our interview that his mission is to get the video of the Metro Police released to the public in its entirety. He wants to get the truth out about January 6.
The handful of us inside the DC jail who seriously analyzed video took down pages upon pages of notes showing that the police escalated January 6 into a riot. Dan is chief among them.
He has the ID’s, the timestamps, the names, the locations. What Dan needs now is the infrastructure to get this information to the public. He also needs support as he rebuilds his life after having it broken by our government for years. Please consider supporting Dan HERE so he can return to a life of normalcy and focus on exposing the true cause of January 6.
