MP’s fury at State’s neglect of unborn

A NSW MP who last year threatened to topple the Berejiklian government over its support for late-term abortions has again raised concerns over its treatment of unborn children.

In a Christmas Eve email, Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said the NSW government hadn’t honoured its commitment to recognise unborn babies who had died as a result of crime.

“Premier Gladys Berejiklian made a commitment to introduce laws to recognise the death of an unborn child killed during a criminal act,” Ms Davies wrote.

CRIMINAL

“Last month, a draft bill was introduced which will see increased sentencing, but does not individually recognise the death of an unborn child as a result of a criminal act.

“This bill doesn’t honour the families who want the death of their unborn children, caused as a result of a criminal act, to be recognised by law.”

Ms Davies said she had experience within her own electorate of unborn children dying as a result of crime.

“In my own electorate two years ago, the Hoang family were returning home one night when a drunk driver collided head-on with their car,” she said.

“23-year old Katherine Hoang and her sister-in-law, Belinda Hoang were killed in the crash, and husband and brother, Bronko Hoang suffered critical injuries.

“Katherine Hoang was just days away from giving birth to twin baby boys.

“While the drunk driver was sentenced to 10 years in prison, the law did not separately recognise the death of the unborn twin baby boys.”

AMENDMENTS

Ms Davies made headlines last year after opposing the Berejiklian government’s support for legalising late term abortions in NSW.

Along with a number of government colleagues, she demanded at least four key amendments be made to the late term abortion bill.

They included a prohibition on sex selection abortions, proper medical care for aborted babies born alive, protection of conscientious objection rights for doctors and allied health professionals and stricter regulation of late term abortions.

After these requests were rejected in full or in part, Ms Davies along with colleagues Matthew Mason-Cox and Lou Amato announced they would move a spill motion to remove the premier.

“We have respectfully and consistently requested the premier to urgently intervene to restore proper process by stopping the fast tracking of the Abortion Bill and immediately establishing a Joint Select Committee into abortion law reform in NSW. These requests have been rejected,” they wrote in a joint statement at the time.

SHAMEFUL

“This lack of due process and respect for other people’s views has broken trust within the Liberal Party room, the wider Liberal Party and many communities across NSW. We have reflected deeply on our position and listened to the thousands of people who have contacted us during this time.

“We have come to the conclusion that the right course of action is not to leave the Parliamentary Liberal Party but to hold the Premier to account for presiding over this shameful process.

“It is only with new leadership that we can again move forward as a united team delivering for the people of NSW.”

The spill motion was called off, however, after Ms Davies and her colleagues were promised undisclosed concessions.

A majority of NSW Liberal MPs voted against the late-term abortion bill, however, it was eventually passed by Labor and National MPs who voted against them.PC

  1. “A NSW MP […] has again raised concerns over its treatment of unborn children.”

She has “raised concerns” over the wholesale butchering of innocent and defenceless children?

That’s wonderful – has she perhaps heard of the crossbench, or don’t her convictions stretch as far as that?

  2. The NSW government pretended to be pro-family prior to its most recent re-election. Immediately after, however, it betrayed its supporters and gave the Greens their every wish. There will be a reckoning and it will be brutal.
