Senior Libs ‘aware’ of MP child-sex allegations

SENIOR Liberal Party operatives were aware of a child-sex investigation into NSW MP Rory Amon as early as April 2023 – mere weeks before he was appointed as the State’s Shadow Assistant Minister for Youth.

According to former NSW Liberal State Executive member Kyle Kutasi there is “no doubt” others in the Party were aware of the police investigation.

If Rory Amon was under investigation from July 2022, it means he either lied or he did disclose it, which means the Nomination Review Committee knew about the investigation and still put him through.

Mr Amon, who denies the allegations, resigned from the Liberal Party and from State Parliament following his arrest last week.

The 35-year-old Pittwater MP was charged on Friday at Manly Police State with 10 child-sex offences involving a male aged between 10 and 14 years. He will appear in Manly Local Court on October 24.

Despite the police investigation commencing in June 22, the NSW Liberals on Friday claimed the news came as a shock.

KNOWLEDGE

According to NSW Liberal Leader Mark Speakman, he had “no advanced knowledge” of the allegations.

Mr Kutasi, however – who has since been expelled from the NSW Liberal Party – claims the Party is being dishonest.

“I was contacted by a journalist after the last State election (March 2023) and she asked what I knew about the allegations and if they had been raised at State Executive,” he told 2GB’s Ben Fordham.

“I wasn’t aware of the allegations until this time.

“I mentioned it a few days later to a couple of MPs and there is no doubt in my mind that I wasn’t the only person to be contacted. There is no doubt that they knew.”

Mr Kutasi said there were peculiar circumstances surrounding Mr Amon’s entry into the NSW Parliament.

“He was the sole Liberal candidate for the seat of Pittwater. There was a very funny process that took place with that preselection.

DECLARATION

“The then State Director ruled out another candidate to ensure Amon was the only one.”

Mr Kutasi said Liberal candidates who nominated for preselection were required to sign a statutory declaration.

“Now, if Amon was under investigation from July 2022, it means he either lied or he did disclose it, which means the Nomination Review Committee knew about the investigation and still put him through.” PC
