Godless young women lurch Left

ALMOST 60 per cent of Australians who support Left-of-centre political Parties claim to be non-religious, according to the lastest Newspoll. 

Supporters of Leftist Parties are typically young, female (52 per cent), non-religious (58 per cent) and earn marginally less income than other voters, although they are similarly educated. 

Coalition voters, meanwhile, tended to be male, significantly religious (58 per cent) and speak English at home.

The poll, published in last Friday’s Australian newspaper (May 29, 2020), showed that 70 per cent of respondents who support PM Scott Morrison’s performance were Christian. Only 45 per cent of those backing Labor leader Anthony Albanese’s claimed the same. 

Less than half of Labor supporters polled spoke English at home – with 57 per cent saying they spoke another language.

EARNINGS

The poll also showed the Coalition level pegging with Labor both nationally and in NSW with two-party preferences tracking at 50:50.

Mixing religion and politics.

The Coalition trailed in Victoria (45:55), South Australia (47:53) and led in Queensland (56:44) and Western Australia (55:45).

Left-leaning support was highest among voters earning between $50-100k (52:48), level among those below $50k (50:50) and trailed in all other income brackets: $100-$149k (48:52) and $150k+ (47:53).

The Prime Minister led Labor’s Albanese 51:31 as preferred prime minister.

The survey was based on a total of 6032 interviews among voters. The margin of error on a national basis is +/-1.3 percentage points. The margin of of error for smaller States is estimated at +/-4.5 percentage points.PC
