Former Vice President Kamala Harris urged Democrats to prioritize investigations and accountability rather than another impeachment of President Donald Trump if they win the House and Senate, responding to Aaron Parnas during an October 27 interview ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Harris said “the energy and the resources need to be put into accountability, need to be put into investigations,” while arguing that the Senate votes needed to convict Trump were not available.

Harris advocated toughness rather than leniency, saying, “When I say we should be ruthless, I don’t mean cruel, but we should be uncompromising,” after describing Republicans as both ruthless and cruel. She urged Democrats to stop being “genteel” about political relationships and deliver results, including reversing Medicaid cuts and restoring checks on the administration’s handling of the war, emphasizing that there was no time to wait.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton similarly predicted during the October 28 episode of High Stakes with Kara Swisher that a Democrat Congress would investigate “him, his administration, his family, his supporters and allies.” Clinton advocated legislation, lawsuits and public pressure to restrain Trump, citing outrage over a proposed streamed execution as an example of pressure that she said had prompted officials to back down.

She predicted that Republican losses would lead Trump to blame others, demand greater party loyalty and become more dangerous, including potentially launching additional attacks on Iran that she warned could endanger American military personnel and civilians. Describing Trump as a lame duck, Clinton argued that he had held Republicans hostage politically for a decade, predicted that resistance within his party could grow, and said Democrats would ultimately have to demonstrate effective governance on affordability and corruption.

“So buckle up,” Clinton said, adding that the election was only the beginning and that Democrats first needed to win before they could restrain Trump and hold him accountable. In an earlier conversation with Swisher, Clinton also opposed impeaching Trump as a “sideshow” unlikely to produce a conviction, while supporting impeachment investigations into officials such as Pete Hegseth, whom she accused of politicizing the military.
