by JERRY ZHU & DANIEL Y TENG – ONE Nation’s rise is a rejection of progressive-Left ideology, according to Author Kevin Donnelly.
He said decades of cultural change have left many Australians feeling disconnected from traditional values, creating a “groundswell of anxiety” that is now being reflected at the ballot box.
- Marxist thinkers shifted their attention from economic revolution to cultural change.
- This is more dangerous because it enforces mind control, groupthink and indoctrinates young people.
- Australians are now enduring a “groundswell of anxiety”.
At the 2025 federal election, One Nation drew just 6.4 per cent of the primary vote.
The most recent Roy Morgan poll shows 24 per cent of respondents now intend to vote for One Nation, higher than the once centre-Right Coalition (23.5 per cent) and 3.5 percentage points shy of Labor’s 27.5 per cent.
GLOBAL SHIFT
Dr Donnelly, author of Wake Up To Woke: Why Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party Is So Popular, points to a global shift that has largely occurred in the United States and Europe, until now.
“Australians are fed up with all this politically correct woke ideology, whether it’s gender fluidity, whether it’s climate alarmism, whether it’s having three flags instead of one, whether it’s undermining Western culture,” he told The Epoch Times this week.
Donnelly characterised the progressive influence as “cultural Marxism” – a phenomenon that has been occurring over the past 40 to 50 years.
He says that after the communist revolution failed to gain support in prosperous Western democracies, Marxist thinkers shifted their attention from economic revolution to cultural change.
“What these Marxist academics argued – associated with the Frankfurt School in Germany – was that the best way to overthrow Western culture, Christianity, religion, capitalism, was to take control of schools, universities, trade unions, the media, even the family and political organisations,” he said.
“Cultural Marxism is not as physically violent, but is probably more dangerous because it enforces mind control, groupthink and indoctrinates young people in particular.”
PROBLEMS
Dr Donnelly says recent economic problems have meant Australians are now enduring a “groundswell of anxiety”.
“The past 10 or 15 years have been quite difficult in terms of the cost of living,” he said.
He pointed to difficulties for young people entering the housing market, as well as rising energy costs.
Immigration and multiculturalism are other factors he has identified.
He acknowledged that migration had contributed positively to Australia but said many One Nation voters were concerned about the speed and scale of arrivals, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Pauline Hanson has been a strong critic of multiculturalism,” he added.
“I disagree with what she said about being a monoculture, but multiculturalism is an issue that people are concerned about.”
One Nation Senator Sean Bell said in an interview with News24 (previously Sky News) that the Party believed multiculturalism was not working.
“One Nation is adamant that we should have one Australian culture,” Senator Bell said.
At the core of that, it is protecting and restoring traditional Australian values. And one of those is ensuring that our national language English is the dominant language of this country.”
Bell stressed that the Party was not against multilingualism, but that government services should be delivered in English.
The March 2026 publication by ANUpoll reveals about 70 per cent of 3662 Australians surveyed believed border control was a key issue and responsibility of the government.
More than half (55.3 per cent) of respondents said cost of living was a key concern.PC

The whole place is arse up, the left have run through our institutions and political parties, just look at the same sex love taught in primary school to get a grip on what Australians are disgusted with for a start And now the whole feminist narrative just giggles it off while taking it up the arse.
In the news today One Nation is proposing new legislation to deal with terrorist activities by Australians travelling overseas, and in typical One Nation headline seeking challenging the Coalition Opposition to support One Nation’s proposed legislation.
A reminder;
The Abbott Government introduced significant anti-terrorism measures, particularly through the Counter-Terrorism Legislation Amendment (Foreign Fighters) Act 2014. This legislation was designed to address the growing concern of Australian citizens traveling to conflict zones, such as Iraq and Syria, and returning with radicalized views.
Key Provisions of the Foreign Fighters ActPassport Suspension
Temporary Suspension of Passports: The Act grants the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) the authority to temporarily suspend the passports of individuals suspected of engaging in terrorism-related activities. This measure aims to prevent these individuals from traveling abroad and potentially participating in terrorist activities.
Other Legislative Changes
Declared Area Offence: The Act creates an offence for entering or remaining in a ‘declared area’, which is intended to deter Australians from traveling to conflict zones.
Advocating Terrorism: It also introduces an offence for advocating terrorism, which has implications for freedom of expression.
Impact on Existing Laws
The Foreign Fighters Act amends 22 existing acts, enhancing the powers of authorities to investigate and manage the risks posed by returning fighters. It also extends the sunset clauses on certain counter-terrorism powers that were set to expire, allowing for continued enforcement without immediate review.
I understand why many Australians are feeling vulnerable to rapid change including multiculturalism impacting adversely, meaning multicultural society not a problem for most of us, but lack of integration and governments not enforcing our English language for all Australians so providing many ethnic groups with specific assistance with publications in many languages, interpreters in government departments and courts of law, etc. And possibly the greatest concern of all are religion based groups who not only reject mainstream society but seek to change our lifestyle and even wan to have their own legal system.
Immigration is at an all time record high, the second highest was when Rudd-Gillard Labor governments were elected 2007-2013 and average intake was 259,000 a year, as compared to Howard Coalition government (1996) from 2000-2007 average 125,800 a year.
Under Albanese Labor immigration average intake 2022-2025 was 424,300 compared to from Abbott to Morrison governments 2013-2022 average 168,700 a year.
One Nation 2026 say 130,000 would be enough, so what is different to what Coalition governments achieved?
And border control, Howard Pacific Solution and Abbott Operation Sovereign Borders, and Anti-Terrorism laws Howard and then Abbott governments.
The tag Uniparty used by One Nation is a political nonsense, there is no comparison, Labor and the other Green left are far away from the Labor right, Liberal and National “broad church” factions are no further left than Labor right factions and they during the 1950s split away from the Labor far left and formed Democratic Labor Party (DLP).
Today Senator Hanson is absent from the Senate again, her attendance record is 53 percent, and with due consideration for the periods the Senate meets surely she has more time leftover to do her campaigning for the next election due 2028. Elected representatives are very well remunerated plus benefits, taxpayer funding should be respected and duties taken seriously.
Marxism and its allied ideologies grew up in times when poverty and poor health and tough conditions were in much starker contrast to the wealth of the upper classes. Anyone would realise that “something must be done” to improve the lot of everyone. Now. Compassion required it. The trouble was–and is– that the leaps in health, economics and social improvement do not happen overnight. Our compassion demands immediate uplifting of the masses, but steady social and economic progress take time. The notion that an all-powerful and intrusive government would enter the scene like a Fairy Godmother and strip the wealthy and powerful of their assets and throw them benevolently at the feet of the poor is always seductive. Except for one thing…it doesn’t work. Sadly, we have to wait for a lot of medical, economic and technological advances to percolate through all areas of society. In the same way that antibiotics only became a reality in the 1940’s and onward and many died before they were fully rolled out. Our instinctive compassion must not lead to us destroying the very economy and society that (slowly) produces prosperity and advancement.
Prime Minister Albanese has been a follower of the late Russian revolutionary Marxist Leon Trotsky since student activist period and associate of the Australian Communist Party and foreign far left groups.
Consider the Australian Fabian Society modelled on the Fabian Society established in England late 1800s and followers of Marxism, members here are Labor members.
The left made up of Labor, Greens and the supportive Teals are and have been masters of deception and manipulation, far smarter than most conservatives in my opinion. Example, while conservatives understandably supported the formation of the United Nations after World War 2.0 were unaware of the infiltration from the left side of politics. One example was Labor (Communist) Attorney General Evatt who gave his comrades at the UN the plan to get as many member nations and compliant governments to sign as many treaties and agreements as possible, and to legislate the objectives into laws and regulations for enforcement and getting around Constitutional laws. Here at Federal (Commonwealth) Government and Federation of States complimentary. What a tangled web they were weaving as they practised their deceiving. And how to unravel it?
Coalition Federal government legislates a repeal bill, Senate opposition most often blocks it or negotiates changes before passing it. And then States might or probably won’t cooperate. And Labor will attack and spread propaganda (relentless negativity) and too many voters will not remember the truth. And then accept misleading propaganda that “they” are all the same.
Consider the propaganda and example Snowy 2.0 pumped hydro project, it was part of the original Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme but it was decided not to build it at that time, Snowy Mountains Hydro Limited, then owned by Federal and States of NSW and VIC, put a proposal to the Turnbull Coalition Government to build Snowy 2.0 and it was accepted and announced, subject to further submissions on engineering and economics provided a couple of years later. When finally approved with capital expenditure approval (part government loan and balance borrowed by the company) and the first access tunnel being constructed Albanese Labor was elected to government, the primary contractor was declared bankrupt and a new contractor appointed, and with new terms and conditions of progress payments included. Since then the cost has continued to rise well above original estimates. So who is to blame, Prime Minister Turnbull apparently, no mention of his Deputy Joyce now with One Nation.
But no, the Turnbull Government did not give the final go ahead approval for Snowy 2.0, and the decision to proceed subject to submissions was a three governments decision, later the Federal Coalition government acquired the shareholdings of NSW and VIC for about $6.5 billion.
There are many other examples of how we Australians are being manipulated politically, the left are our political enemies and the system of government is unhelpful for people with integrity.
