NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean has responded callously to the resignation of Liberal Party colleague Craig Kelly telling him “good riddance”.
Mr Kelly is the latest of a string of conservatives who have departed an increasingly radicalised Liberal Party.
- NSW MP accuses departing Craig Kelly of disrespecting science.
- Social media hits back – accusing 'globalists' of having no evidence.
- Kean told to defect to The Greens 'right now'.
The departure list also includes other notables such as former MP Ross Cameron, author John Ruddick and former South Australian senator Cory Bernardi to name a few.
Mr Kean, who leads NSW’s ultra-Left “moderate” faction appears determined to out-green the The Greens on environmental and energy issues.
The relentless removal of conservative colleagues is key to achieving his goal.
MISINFORMATION
Mr Kelly resigned from the Liberal Party on Tuesday over his stance on broadening COVID treatments. The member for Hughes has relocated to the federal cross benches.
In a social media post, Mr Kean said Mr Kelly was “spreading misinformation” and had no place in the Liberal Party.
“Craig Kelly’s spreading of misinformation about COVID-19 and climate change and his disrespect for scientific evidence have no place in a major Australian political party,” Mr Kean wrote.
“Good riddance,” he concluded.
Mr Kean, however, appears to have ideologically selected his “science” as there is any number of high-profile scientists who have publicly supported Mr Kelly’s position on COVID treatment, including Emeritus Professor Robert Clancy of Newcastle University.
“The data is crystal clear,” Prof Clancy said. “Ivermectin and HCQ are of significant benefit when used early in the disease.”
Mr Kelly’s decision to quit the Party came two weeks after Prime Minister Scott Morrison asked him to stop contradicting official government health advice.
“If I’m to continue to act in line with my conscience and principles … and to speak fearlessly and faithfully represent my constituents, I have no alternative other than to resign as a member of the Liberal Party,” Mr Kelly wrote to the prime minister this week.
MINORITY
His departure reduces the government’s numbers to 75 of 151 seats, thrusting it into minority government.
Mr Kelly said that, while he would not always vote with the government, he would continue to support it on matters of supply and confidence.
The Prime Minister said he had set out some “very clear standards” after Mr Kelly became involved in a public spat with Labor MP Tanya Plibersek – with both accusing each other of promoting “misinformation”.
“He no longer felt that he could meet those commitments,” Mr Morrison said.
“He’s made his decision today and by his own explanation, he has said that his actions were slowing the government down and he believed the best way for him to proceed was to remove himself from the party room.”
Mr Kean’s social media comments on Mr Kelly drew harsh criticism from other social media users.
“This tweet just handed @CraigKellyMP more LNP voters to jump ship – perhaps STF so you guys don’t lose any more. Scientific evidence LOL. That’s the problem globalist, there hasn’t been any,” Beanzie replied.
Jason Todd wrote: “Matt, you are not wanted or needed. Your political career will be over soon enough, and we’ll be better off when you drift into irrelevance”.
While Alice Bennett didn’t mince her words: “You are more of a risk to the Liberal party than Craig Kelly would ever be. Why don’t you defect to the Greens party right now, that’s where you belong…”.PC
Kean wouldn’t know his arse from his elbow unless Photios pointed to it. This money grubbing little Marxist puppet is beyond disgraceful.
I’ll Add “3” to Randall Lumbewe’s “2”.
3. How does Matt Kean justify his emissions policies (ramblings) with being a senior member of a government which is spending billions of dollars on new infrastructure ?
Much of that infrastructure involves hundreds of thousands of tons of concrete. A major component of concrete is cement. Manufacture of the latter is one of the most emission intensive industries in the world.
Matt Kean is one of many who disrespect science because they cannot publish and real evidence – read “Not for Greens” by Ian Plimer – he dismantles all the BS, states the facts. Matt Kean show the global warming stats, especially in Texas, show the higher frequency of storms especially after the USA East Coast 2019 season – the lowest since recording. Like Alex Turnbull, AllGore, Tim Flappery all the evidence they sprout is “The Science is settled” or “Most scientists agree” but no real stats or hard evidence…
And note that the US freeze happened immediately after Biden said we should put out more action against global warming. Well he got his wish – probably quicker than he planned. Some people should be careful what they wish for!
So how does Kean’s comment (against Craig Kelly) stack up against the NSW Liberals recently announced “Code of Practice” ? Treating all others with respect, etc etc etc.
We will see whether the Liberal hierarchy have the fortitude to censure a NSW Liberal Minister.
Sean,
As Liberals….at all times, I believe we must defend free speech. And, As Liberals….we should support our Liberal colleagues…even when we disagree with them.
Sadly, State Minister Kean is failing to represent these key Liberal values.
Sadly, we have lost a Federal Member in Craig Kelly…who has been a champion of free speech.
I wish Craig and his team every success,
Bob, Wahroonga
“Sadly, State Minister Kean is failing to represent these key Liberal values.”
Kean cannot represent key Liberal values any more than a ravening hyena can show compassion, because said values do not exist anywhere in the DNA of left-wingers. Kean’s failure, though, is not the problem, but rather the symptom. The questions that naturally arise are “How did Kean get preselected?”, “How did he get elevated to the ministry?”, and, most pointedly, “How is it that he still has his job?”.
Kean is very much the writing on the wall for the Liberal party, but apparently this has gone unnoticed by some – including those who should know better.
If anyone should resign from the Liberal party it is the phony Matt Kean. He refuses to debate the global warming hoax and obviously does not realize that more scientists now say the climate is not warming than the ones that say it is. He is not fit to be in Parliament and is just a puppet of the left. He will find this out at the next election.
Matt Kean is a disgrace…he belongs in the Greens…he has his snout in the renewables trough and his conflicts of interest are beyond intolerable…they are criminal…Gladys stop hiding behind your virus success and address our base load power needs….
How come this guy is still a minister in the NSW GOVT?
Gladys, you need to get your house in order before the next election else my vote will not be for your party.
The very beginnings of Communism is where there is a deliberate and active opposition to the freedom of speech and being able to think for oneself and express one’s own ideas. This growing trend of where people would rather stifle debate than listen, research, evaluate and consider the opinions of others is our road to the Socialist Republic of Australia and all too soon after communism in Australia. Matt Kean, you need to think about your actions and left wing ideals, and stop pretending to be a conservative whilst hitched up to the Greens and Labor Party’s ideologies.
And if you can let me know two things:
1: Where are you going to get the $32B from to pay for your energy policy?
2: How is it that you are so vehemently against coal fired power generation yet seemingly happy to send out millions of tons of coal to other countries to use for coal fired power (Think India)? If you think CO2 production in Australia is just going to affect Australians then you do need to go back to school.
Sounds like the moderates are gaming for the GREAT RESET, and the first step is the control of speech.
No! I don’t like him – no I don’t.
