Police say 23-year-old Zarian Dyer orchestrated an online plot to have a stranger sexually assault his fiancée inside their home while she was alone with their two young children.
The mother, identified as Bella Torres, fought off the attacker in a terrifying driveway struggle captured on home security video, and then chased him down the street as he fled.
According to the New York Post, citing the Buckeye Police Department, the attack unfolded around 6 p.m. on October 16 near Southern Avenue and Miller Road.
Torres was home with her 2-month-old son (asleep in a bedroom) and her 17-month-old daughter when 20-year-old Adrian Ayala of Goodyear showed up minutes after Dyer left to run an errand for groceries.
Court records and news accounts describe Ayala poking his head through the front door, asking to use the bathroom, then kicking the door open and forcing his way inside.
Once inside, Ayala allegedly grabbed Torres by the neck and began choking her. The struggle spilled into the bathroom, where he locked the door, tried to undo the button on her pants (unsuccessfully), and groped her, according to reports citing court documents.
Torres fought back fiercely, eventually dragging the attacker outside into the driveway. Home security footage shows her pushing him away, slapping him, and shouting as he pressed his weight into her.
During the fight, Ayala allegedly told her, “Your boyfriend told me you’d be into this.” Torres chased him down the street before he escaped. One of the children was also reportedly struck during the chaos.
Ayala was arrested the next day at his Goodyear home. He claimed he had met Dyer online, with some accounts specifying a Reddit agreement, and entered into a plan to sexually assault the fiancée. Detectives seized electronic devices from both men and uncovered communications about the planned attack.
Dyer was arrested Thursday morning (October 29) while at work near Roosevelt Street and Verrado Way.
He faces charges including aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, and conspiracy. Ayala faces related charges, including kidnapping, sexual abuse, burglary, and aggravated assault.
Police have said they do not yet know a motive for the alleged plot. Ayala’s attorney has described it as a “role-play scenario,” claiming his client believed he had consent because of what Dyer allegedly told him.
Torres previously told local media she did not know Ayala and did not believe her fiancé knew him either.
