THE world could well be as dangerous today as it was in 1939. The difference is that the danger is as much from within as from outside hostile foreign powers. In Australia, the internal enemy is more insidious than even in the last war, as revealed by Hal Colebatch in Australia’s Secret War (2013).

FROM November, news about the Wuhan virus will no doubt move from the front page. Our power-drunk politicians will have to calm down and think about how to repair the massive and unnecessary damage they have done to the Australian economy, including the $6 billion they admit to pouring down the drain to incentivise idleness.
THE politicians are ruining Australia far sooner than anyone ever expected.It was always self-evident that a lockdown of the productive sector must be a last resort. The first was completely unjustified. It has, without explanation, morphed from “flattening the curve” to preventing hospital crowding to eradication, which is impossible.
WHEN a commercial media outlet engages in a serious and unacceptable breach of ethical standards, the solution is simple. Turn it off or don’t read it. Where this is a public broadcaster, reforming its governance, even questioning its very existence, must follow. Above all, such a broadcaster must never engage with an alien foreign power to abuse the prestige and authority entrusted to it.
THE republican movement is in disarray. It is split several ways: whether to promote an elected or appointed president with or without reserve powers, whether to campaign against the Queen, whether to campaign on a single fake issue and most importantly, those who are dismayed by all this and demand a more serious approach.
