Harmeet Dhillon resigned as the Justice Department Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Fox News reported on Thursday.

Harmeet is the first Justice Department official to resign since Tuesday night’s midterm loss.

According to reports, Harmeet Dhillon will return to California to work in her private practice.

Harmeet Dhillon told Fox News that she wanted to quit three weeks ago but White House advisor Susie Wiles told her to wait until after the midterms.

Fox News reported:

Harmeet Dhillon resigned Thursday as the Department of Justice’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, sources told Fox News.

Dhillon, who assumed office in April 2025, ran the Civil Rights Division. She is leaving after President Donald Trump’s Republican Party lost the House and Senate in this week’s midterm elections.

In the leadup to the midterms, Dhillon defended the Trump administration’s investigation into noncitizen voters.

Dhillon’s resignation comes after a grand jury declined to indict January 6 star witness Cassidy Hutchinson.

The Justice Department sought to indict January 6 ‘star witness’ Cassidy Hutchinson for lying to Congress.

Harmeet Dhillon spearheaded the investigation into Cassidy Hutchinson after the ‘star witness’ testified in June 2022 that Trump got into “the beast” after his speech at the Ellipse on January 6 with the belief that he would be driven to the Capitol.

Last week, the grand jury declined to indict Cassidy Hutchinson.
