In August, Michigan Democrat U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens narrowly lost her party’s Senate primary to radical progressive Abdul El-Sayed. Like a loyal Democrat foot soldier, she quickly accepted the loss and fell in line, endorsing him almost immediately. Over time, however, Stevens grew uneasy with El-Sayed’s associations, including his ties to the openly antisemitic podcaster Hasan Piker. El-Sayed brushed off her concerns and did what he always does—talked fast and talked around the antisemitism problem rather than confronting it.
On October 24, an anti-Mike Rogers television ad from Rebellion PAC, tied to far-left podcast host and Hasan Piker’s uncle, Cenk Uygur, began running in Michigan.

The sick ad blamed high U.S. grocery prices on American aid to Israel. The ad shows a couple in a grocery store where the woman tells the man to put the eggs back because “we have to set that $7 aside for killing Palestinians,” then discusses the billions in U.S. aid to Israel (claiming it costs American taxpayers about $161 per person) and implies Americans are also paying for Israel’s healthcare, ending with Mike Rogers being for “they/them” (Israelis) while Abdul El-Sayed is for you. Haley Stevens and her fiancé Jason Turkish demanded El-Sayed condemn the ad as antisemitic scapegoating of Jews and Israel for domestic problems like grocery prices (the ADL called it a “case study in antisemitism”), while El-Sayed’s campaign distanced itself by saying the ad was not affiliated with him but was criticized for not fully condemning its message.
On October 28, Haley Stevens’ fiancé, attorney Jason Turkish, already announced he would vote for Rogers in the days leading up to her own endorsement. Jason Turkish is a Jewish disability-rights attorney and managing partner of the Southfield-based firm Nyman Turkish PC. He is legally blind and has focused his career on Social Security disability and civil rights cases, including a notable settlement that led to changes in the LSAT. His father was born in Haifa, Israel, where the family still has relatives, and his grandparents were Holocaust refugees. Turkish has been outspoken about rising antisemitism and concerns over Abdul El-Sayed’s associations and rhetoric on Israel, which led him to publicly announce he would vote for Republican Mike Rogers.
Today, U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens did something Democrats across America rarely have the courage to do: she stood up for what she believed was the right thing to do, not what the Democratic Party told her to do. After weeks of telegraphing that she was sick and tired of the alarming increase in antisemitism, and indicating Michigan’s U.S.Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed played a role in promoting that hatred, Stevens had a tough decision to make—would she tow the Democratic Party line and get behind the Islamic terrorist-sponsored candidate, who has a history of spewing hate towards Israel and aligning himself with people and groups who hate Jews, or take a stand against it? Representative Stevens pleaded with El-Sayed to disavow the antisemitic ad, but El-Sayed refused; instead of standing by him at a campaign event today, Stevens chose to appear with Mike Rogers, who spoke at a church in Detroit.
Stevens also made a video explaining that the little hothead (my words), Abdul-El-Sayed, had kicked her out of his campaign after she made the decision she could not align herself with “hate.” Although Stevens clarified she was still a Democrat, the intolerant party quickly let her know her membership card had been pulled in Michigan, where Stevens has spent her entire life.
I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today. https://t.co/pQgfSBuhOJ

Democrats responded like they do when someone steps off the plantation. Their actions were swift, punishing, and decisive, leaving no room for discussion. Michigan Democratic Thug-in-Chief Curtis Hertel shared the news with U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens in a tweet.

Hertel wrote:
Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.
In a follow-up tweet, Hertel appears to defend his intolerant decision to kick Stevens to the curb. Hertel explained that Stevens decision to stand up for the Jewish citizens of Michigan is a “betrayal,” because volunteers have been knocking on doors for Democrats.
What??!!
For any Jewish readers in Michigan that have already voted absentee for El-Sayed because perhaps you chose to ignore his past antimsemitic remarks and put part before the consequences of having someone like Abul El-Sayed in office, you can go to your local clerk’s office before the election and request to have your ballot back. Once you get your ballot, you can ask to have it spoiled and you can receive a new ballot where you can vote for Mike Rogers. And while you’re at it, you should really consider voting for John James, who, if elected, would be Michigan’s first pro-Israel, pro-Jew, Black governor.
