New York Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the 9/11 families who are demanding that Zohran Mamdani stay away from their 9/11 memorial on Tuesday, attacking them on social media after a press conference at City Hall.
Mamdani declared recently that he will “proudly honor the families, the survivors, the first responders, forever impacted by that horrific terror attack by standing alongside them at this year’s 9/11 commemoration,” the Gateway Pundit reported. This is despite strong condemnation from the families mourning their losses and a petition drive that gathered 100,000 signatures to bar Mamdani from attending.

Giovanni Galante, the organizer of a petition to bar Mamdani from the event, said the families just want “to be left alone” to mourn the 25th anniversary of the attack on Tuesday.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, the families of 9/11 victims delivered a press conference earlier, in a final effort to keep Mamdani away from their memorial for loved ones. Some pointed to his lack of understanding, his affiliations with America-hating jihadists and terrorist sympathizers, and his attempt to make the memorial about himself.
Mamdani is aligned with Hasan Piker, who said America deserved 9/11, and Ramzi Kassem, who once represented Ahmed al-Darbi, an al-Qaeda operative convicted in the 2002 bombing of a French oil tanker and the brother-in-law of 9/11 Pentagon hijacker Khalid al-Mihdhar, who serves as his administration’s chief legal counsel. Mamdani has also praised Brooklyn Imam Siraj Wahhaj, an alleged co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
“He just wants to be there because he wants to be there,” said Charles Wolf, noting that “This mayor is not serving us; he’s serving himself.”

Following the press conference, Hochul chimed in on X, slamming the families for creating “division” and lecturing them about why they should let Mamdani be part of their tribute.
“The Mayor of New York City will be there, as he should be,” the governor wrote.
Division should not prevail over the spirit of unity that brought us together after September 11th.

Reverend Al Sharpton also joined Hochul in attacking the families, accusing them of seeking to exclude Mamdani simply “because of his faith” and being “motivated by anti-Muslim bigotry.”
There are more than one million Muslim New Yorkers. They are just as much a part of the fabric of this city as anyone else.
Anyone demanding that the Mayor not attend a day of solemn remembrance because of his faith is motivated by anti-Muslim bigotry.
