by CRYSTAL-ROSE JONES – LIBERAL Leader Peter Dutton has warned that Australia must have a US ambassador who can stablise relations between the two nations.
Mr Dutton’s comments come amid speculation that former PM Kevin Rudd could be nearing his final days in the role.
- Rudd’s social media comments were deleted following Trump’s election win.
- The Albanese Government is now in a difficult position with Australia’s most important ally.
- Far Left-leaning Liberal Simon Birmingham said he hoped Trump could forgive Rudd.
Following Donald Trump’s win in last week’s US election, the President elect’s senior advisor Dan Scavino, and former chief of staff, posted an animation of sand trickling through an hourglass, along with Rudd’s statement on the election outcome.
Rudd has previously been critical of Trump, calling him “the most destructive president in history”, a “traitor to the west” and a “village idiot”.
DELETED
His comments were deleted following Trump’s election win.
Rudd was chosen for the role in 2022 by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese despite public knowledge of the former Labor leader’s scathing criticisms.
“The government’s in a difficult position,” Mr Dutton told reporters in Melbourne.
“The Prime Minister has made a number of captain’s calls, and they’ve been at odds with the advice that he’s received from his closest advisers and colleagues,” he said.
“And I suppose that’s a question about the Prime Minister’s judgment.”
Mr Dutton said Albanese had “a lot of messes” to deal with that were “all of his own making”.
The Opposition Leader said he wanted what was best for Australia when it came to an ambassador to the US.
“I want us to have a functioning, stable relationship with our most important partner,” he said.
“I want to make sure that we have an ambassador who can work effectively with other governments, whether that’s the US or wherever an ambassador might be appointed.”
Opposition Foreign Affairs spokesman and South Australian Senator Simon Birmingham told a National Press Club Address on this week that he hoped the Trump administration could forgive Rudd’s criticisms.
Mr Birmingham, a far Left-leaning Liberal, suggested President Trump had chosen Marco Rubio as his Secretary of State, despite Rubio previously making critical remarks about the President.
“Hopefully … the type of forgiveness that has been demonstrated to those members of the new Administration will be extended in this case as well,” Mr Birmingham said.
“Now, Ambassador Rudd and the Prime Minister are the ones who are in the box seat to best make the assessment in coming weeks or months about how effectively he is going to be able to continue to have the influence and get the outcomes that Australia needs.” PC
This idiot posing as an Australian is CCP in disguise! And if Peter dutton thinks he will take back government with people like Birmingham? Australians will be greatly disappointed! We need someone of Clive Palmer and Senator Ralph Babets Calibre to straighten this socialist mob out with help from One Nation and no lefties from Labor, Greens or LNP 🙁
Gives you an idea what chance Dutton has when one of his senior representatives is a top heavy labor/lite. Unless he can clean the swamp very difficult to win Government
From a recent article in the Spectator:
“Kim Darroch, Theresa May’s ambassador in Washington, described Trump’s administration in a diplomatic cable as ‘inept and insecure’ – mild criticism compared to Team Starmer’s language. The cable leaked, Trump said ‘We will no longer deal with him’ and Darroch had to go home.”
Are you listening, Ambassador Rudd?
