PRIME Minister Scott Morrison and angry trade unions have simultaneously moved to expose Anthony Albanese’s climate double-talk, as a senior MP threatens to quit the green-obsessed ALP. While “climate emergency” MPs pretended Saturday’s by-election thumping had nothing to do with climate politics, their union paymasters are saying otherwise – and PM Morrison is capitalising on the turmoil.
FEDERAL Finance Minister Simon Birmingham is circumspect on the national implications of last weekend’s NSW by-election in the coal-rich mining region of Upper Hunter, north of Sydney. The by-election was watched closely by major political parties keen to see how popular support for the incumbent NSW government was tracking, particularly considering its handling of COVID-19 and recent sexual assault allegations against several MPs including retiring Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen.
LABOR has admitted it’s baffled by its ongoing election losses in spite of the Party’s “intellectual and moral superiority”. Former Labor Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon said his Party had an unhealthy self-opinion and showed little respect for its opponents.
THE Australian National University in Canberra has gone gender-woke replacing the words mum and dad with “birthing parent” and “non-gestational parent”. All references to mothers and fathers have been banned, with the university’s Gender Institute handbook ordering staff to use “gender inclusive” titles instead.
WESTERN Australia’s opposition Liberal Party has split with Prime Minister Scott Morrison, announcing net zero carbon emissions a full 20 years earlier than Labor’s economy-wrecking target. Mr Zak Kirkup, who was elected Liberal leader last November, has described his 2030 net zero plan as “bold”. Others describe it as crazy.
FORMER Labor cabinet minister Joel Fitzgibbon has labelled climate politics “dishonest” and “delusional”, saying Australian voters were being lied to.
In a broadside speech given to The Sydney Institute on Wednesday, Mr Fitzgibbon said Labor had no business setting medium-term emissions targets.
NINETY five per cent of centre-Left voters couldn’t care less about climate issues, ranking jobs, affordable energy and health as far more important. Among centre-right voters – who traditionally support the Liberal National Party – the divide is even greater with only two in a hundred rating climate change as an election issue.
TRADE union bosses and ALP stalwarts have come in boots flying against Labor’s radical Left-wing climate agenda – calling it “electoral poison”. Realising the damage inflicted by Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard and Bill Shorten’s decade-long embrace of Greens Party policy, the unions have stepped in to to rescue the “soul of the Party”.
LABOR shadow minister Joel Fitzgibbon has spectacularly quit his resources portfolio after a Party room shouting match on Monday, further weakening Anthony Albanese’s grip on the leadership. The pair are reported to have had a mid-meeting verbal brawl which saw Mr Fitzgibbon storm out after saying he regretted not running for the ALP leadership.
THE ALP shadow cabinet has backflipped on environmental policy, embraced gas and declared Australia will not be a low-carbon economy “anytime soon”. The Party has been involved in a public civil war since its crushing defeat in last May’s “unlosable” federal election – which it had dubbed the “climate change” election.
