Allison Montgomery, a transgender Democrat, wins Alabama State House seat
Republicans did so poorly in the midterm elections that Alabama, a historically red state that Trump won by 30 points in 2024, elected its first transgender state legislator in history.
The historically red Alabama House District 25, a district Trump won three times, flipped for Democrat Allison Montgomery, a transgender man who now identifies as a woman.
One would think that a transgender leftist couldn’t win in such a state, especially in a longtime Republican stronghold, but Montgomery’s messaging on affordability obviously beat that of the Republicans.
“Ask yourselves: if I hadn’t transitioned, would gas be cheaper? Would your utilities be cheaper? Would groceries be more affordable? Would your medical debt go away? Would your rent stop getting higher?” he previously said in response to Republicans’ attacks on his mental stability.
Here’s a clip of him or “her” speaking. It’s astonishing that Republicans let this happen to Alabama.
Now, Alabama is stuck with this for four years.
In a statement following the victory, Montgomery lashed out at Republicans and his constituents in a divisive statement, writing, “We the people are tired of attempts to distract us with culture war issues, whether we’re in a minority group or not.”
“I’m going to work especially hard for those who hate me, because they deserve a better Alabama as much as anyone,” he said.
Former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida trolled Republicans over the humiliating defeat.
“Alabama is electing transexuals,” he wrote, crediting the Iran war and higher prices.
“Thank goodness Iran is no longer 2 weeks away from a nuke.”
