National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett appeared on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream to discuss AI regulation.

Bream had discussed comments made by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei about the potential risks of AI.

“No human interaction whatsoever, they can actually take over the internet. You talked earlier this year about maybe something like an FDA approval process. An executive order that would, you know, test AI products before they go out ‘into the wild. What’s the status of that?” Bream asked.

“If you look at Dario’s letter, it really presents a road map for the private sector to get ahead of the curve on this. And while he is saying that we need to slow things down, he’s also calling for sort of independent observers to come into the AI companies and to make sure that they are making sure that they are safe,” Hassett said.

“The bottom line is that AI is advancing so rapidly, that you know, the cybersecurity you’ve got on your computer was embedded a few years ago, but AI is, you know, accelerating so rapidly, that maybe it’s gonna be able to go through and break the defenses that we had from 2 or 3 years ago,” Hassett continued.

“At the same time that is happening, these AI companies are developing new defenses. I think that getting AI to be safe is a solvable problem,” Hassett said.

Bream asked Hassett about the economy. The jobs report looked solid, with growth in the stock market too.

“Let’s get to economic news, and I’ll start with the good news,” Bream said.

Bream also showed a poll which showed a negative view that Americans were not happy with the economy, the cost of living and inflation.

“When does it start to make a difference in everyday Americans’ lives?” Bream asked.

“If you look at the sentiment surveys, then they tend to be heavily weighted towards Democrats who are mad about everything right now that we are accomplishing,” Hassett said.

“Inflation is coming under control. Real wages are growing. GDP growth of 3rd quarter is looking like it’s 4.5 percent,” Hassett continued.
