Liberal late-night comic Bill Maher, who occasionally makes good points about the absurdity of the left, gave a good reminder to the right that he’s not on your side during a Friday episode of HBO’s Real Time.
During a segment, instead of calling out the crimes committed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, roasting him over his diary, which proved he lied countless times, and trolling the insane people who continue to defend him, Maher took aim at Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) for releasing his diary and seeking to have Fauci held accountable. The most edgy thing he said was that Fauci was wrong to say the vaccine prevented people from becoming infected with or transmitting the virus.
The funniest thing about his monologue is that he probably actually believes the slop his writers gave him.
Though he did poke fun at true COVID fanatics and people still wearing masks later in the segment, as any sane person would, he suggested that Fauci is innocent and pushed the Democrats’ narrative of Republicans weaponizing the justice system.
“New rule: Stop threatening to put everyone in jail who you just don’t like, the way Senator Rand Paul is trying to do now with Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is back in the news because Senator Paul, formerly of the privacy is everything wing of the Republican Party, got hold of Dr. Fauci’s personal diary and published all of it,” Maher quipped, accusing Paul of hypocrisy.
“Rand, babe, your entire brand is ‘Senator Right to Privacy.’ You’re the Libertarian guy, the Fourth Amendment guy. It’s your family legacy. Your entire political career has been about warning us about government overreach. You printing someone’s diary is like AOC wearing a gown that says ‘tax the poor.’”
As if Fauci is just any American who deserves privacy. Fauci loved the fame and attention he was gaining as the leading authority on the COVID response, all of which he was wrong about.
Maher went on to portray himself as an objective observer, excusing Fauci for pushing the COVID hysteria of 2020, the same hysteria and cancel culture that he, himself, pushed. “Don’t bump hands, don’t lean in to talk, what I call how you should behave anyway! If you’re one of those people, don’t worry about me, I have already been avoiding you,” Maher said on his show in 2020.
“Dr. Fauci, depending on your politics, is either an esteemed, dedicated public servant or a vain, flawed bureaucrat. Well, it’s both. Life’s complicated that way,” he said. “You know what’s really complicated? Science. And Dr. Fauci definitely got some of that wrong.”
“He said if you got the vaccine, it was highly unlikely you’d get COVID or transmit it. Wrong. Okay, but that’s not because it was part of some self-dealing plot. Things were changing rapidly. They just got it wrong. That’s science. Reports of Fauci deliberately lying are based on lazy research, including from centrists that got timelines wrong or transposed,” Maher continued.
He then attempted to show that Fauci, too, was guilty of calling people criminals, again to portray himself as objective, adding, “Can we not call people criminals just for the part they got wrong?”
WATCH:
This is the same Fauci who told Congress under oath that the NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research” at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, while the evidence shows U.S. taxpayer dollars did exactly that.
The same Fauci who dismissed the lab-leak theory as a “conspiracy” even as private notes and emails showed early concerns about engineered features in the virus. The same Fauci who received a preemptive, blanket pardon from Joe Biden on the way out the door.
But Maher doesn’t care. In fact, he believed the lies!
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Rand Paul led the push to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress last week over his refusal to answer questions before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Paul delivered letters referring Fauci for criminal prosecution to the Department of Justice on Thursday after the vote.
President Trump also weighed in on the contempt vote, accusing Fauci of crimes that are “far more serious than a lot of crimes” and noting that his advisors, Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, were both sent to prison for defying subpoenas from the January 6 committee.
