A fighter jet crashed in rural Michigan on Thursday afternoon during a training exercise.

The pilot safely ejected and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated.

The fighter pilot was participating in a routine training exercise in Traverse County at the time of the crash.

“A 149th Fighter Wing, Texas Air National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon was on a routine training mission from the Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center, in Alpena, when it experienced an incident earlier this afternoon,” the Texas Military Department said in a statement.

The cause of the crash is unclear. The identity of the pilot has not been released.

According to CBS News, an evacuation order was issued near the crash site from Jefferson Place to Blair Townhall Road.
